The First Baptist Girls' Choir

The First Baptist Girls' Choir, now in its 26th season was formed in 1983 with twelve members by its present conductor, Jeff Joudrey. Since its humble beginnings, it has grown to over thirty singers and has achieved Provincial and National recognition, winning the Aeolian Singers Rosebowl and the George S. Matheson trophy at the Canadian National Festival of Music.

This multi-denominational choir is made up of girls within Truro and the surrounding areas and in addition to concerts, touring, and recording it contributes regularly to the worship services to the First Baptist Church in Truro.

Since its founding, the choir has received invitations to perform from many parts of the world. In 1986 the choir attended the Montreal Choral Symposium as guests of the Tudor Singers of Montreal; and the Choir of the Church of Saint Andrew and Saint Paul. In 1987 the choir toured England and was the first Nova Scotian choir to be invited to participate at the prestigious International Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales. Since 1987 the choir has toured extensively and has given concerts throughout Canada, the United States, The Netherlands, Iceland, Finland, Germany and The Czech Republic. Most recently the choir was invited along with choirs from all over the country, to participate at the Canada Day Festival, Unisong, held in Ottawa.

The First Baptist Girls' Choir is regularly broadcast on the CBC Radio network and has been heard with Symphony Nova Scotia. Its last recording, "Still The Song Lives On!" was released on the occasion of its 20th Anniversary.

Auditions for the First Baptist Girls' Choir are traditionally held during the summer months, beginning in June. Our Parents Auxiliary

The First Baptist Girls' Choir is governed by a Parents Auxiliary which looks after the day to day running of the choir. The Auxiliary is chaired by Cathie Landsburg and meets throughout the year to coordinate fund-raising projects for the choir and to help organize its yearly activities.
